Turkey Meatballs

This month it’s all about the food, and we couldn’t be happier! It’s that time of year when family and friends gather around and celebrate the incredible flavors of the season.

Ingredients 

  • 1 lb. ground turkey meat
  • 1 cup Marinara Mia® SPRD®
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 tbs. grated parmesan cheese
  • ¼ tsp. black pepper
  • ⅛ tsp. garlic powder
  • ¾ cup chopped onion
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 28 ounce-cans whole-peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. white sugar
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • ¾ tsp. dried basil
  • ½ tsp. pepper
  • 1 bay leaf

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, Marinara Mia® SPRD®, bread crumbs, parsley, parmesan cheese, black pepper, garlic powder and beaten egg. Mix well and form into 12 balls. Cover and store in refrigerator until needed.
  2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until onion is translucent. Stir in tomatoes, salt, sugar and bay leaf. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 90 minutes.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, basil,½ teaspoon pepper and meatballs, and simmer 30 minutes more.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
